Planetary Annihilation is a multiplayer real-time space strategy game in development by Uber Entertainment Inc.

Planetary Annihilation found initial funding through a successful Kickstarter-campaign which was opened for donations on August 15, 2012. Uber Entertainment set an initial goal of US$900,000, which was quickly reached. Uber then established stretch goals which brought in a total of $2,229,344 by the time its campaign ended on September 14, 2012 with more than 44,000 backers. Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Planetary Annihilation is intended to allow for short games played on a single planet or 12+ hour games played across many solar systems with up to 40 players. There are tentative plans for regularly-scheduled mega-games to played on live multiplayer servers, made possible by use of a client-server network model for multiplayer connectivity. Players will build their empires on procedurally-created planets using a streaming-resource economy. There is no single-player campaign planned due to the expense of producing one, but skirmish AI players will be available to enable single-player gaming.
Though games can take place across several systems, space-to-space combat is currently not a planned feature. The overall emphasis will be on ground combat, though naval combat has been introduced. Additionally, there will be the ability to guide asteroids and moons into collisions with planets, or alternately, using a moon as a carrier for an invading army, essentially providing space combat on a strategic if not tactical level. The gravity of planets and moons will play a role, as it will be easier to both attack and exploit resources from lower-gravity worlds.(Although it will function differently due to mechanical limitations.)
Players are represented in-game by their commander unit, which is intended to be a very powerful unit, but players are defeated if they lose this unit. Currently, the plan is that all factions in the game will use the same types of units, though each faction's units may have a unique look.
